I Join a Contest and… *POOF!*

My entry for Kaze-Hime’s TKR FANART CONTEST. Click HERE for FULL VIEW.

Haaay… I’ve passed my entry for a “big-fry” contest on DeviantArt. It’s Kaze-Hime’s TKR Fanart Contest. Actually it started just last month ago (August 2006).

Yuirei informed me about this contest and I got interested so I decided to take a shot. But due to my internship at a company, I can’t seem to start it, hehe.

3 days before the deadline (end of month, 31st of August) I got the necessary time to make my entry. I’m very eager to work on it but of course I must not think of the haste, I must make my entry with heart. After 1 day I finished the lineart. I got sore eyes by the way and headed towards to my usual internet café to have the lineart printed. Then I went to SM MEGAMALL to have my lineart replicate. Hmmm… maybe you’ll ask, “Why go to a far place just to have your lineart photocopied when there are many copiers just around the corner?” Why? Ok, you see, In SM MEGAMALL, there’s an all-around bookstore called NATIONAL BOOKSTORE and that’s where I found this one of a kind xerox machine; their xerox machine is actually special, in a sense that when you replicate a colored page, it replicates the image in their respective grayscale tones (like a manga tone.) What’s the deal with that? Ok, in my new, improved but physically demanding coloring style, I color even the lineart itself. I made it looked like it’s done in digital media. So in order to unleash that style I must make my photocopy version on its very light gray tones.

Ok, after that I went home to start coloring the entry. I’ve read the tips on Kaze-Hime’s journal so I carefully selected the colors that will match to the character. Fortunately, everything went okay and I’ve finished the colors in a day and a half. I scanned the entry and edit it. After a few hours… finished! Whew! :D

I passed it on time and noted Kaze-Hime my entry. I hope it’s accepted. But… it got rejected. Well actually, disqualified. Maybe you’ll wonder why I didn’t react. Well… before I colored the entry I showed the lineart to Yuirei. He told me that I should do a multi-character illustration and not a solo one. It’s one of the important rules. I told him there’s no much time left. He told me that maybe it’s ok since (not to brag this but I always reach finals in most contest.) my entry is good enough to compete with class A and class S entries. But I know a rule is a rule and I broke one very important rule so I already expected this scenario. :D

My entry was rejected and got disqualified and I feel bad about it because I’m looking forward to compete with Yuirei and the others (It’s my fault, anyway.).

BUT SOMETHING REALLY GOOD HAVE HAPPENED!

Kaze-Hime told me that she likes my entry very much. She didn’t accept the entry but in return, she will… TREASURE IT! Wow! I’ve never heard those words in my entire years in making illustrations! (Not even in my school days…) I got very touched and I thanked her. So… without thinking I send through her e-mail my 300 dpi res full version of my entry for her to print it and treasure it, literally. I noted her about that and she replied. She’s going to poster-size print it and she’ll stick on her webroom (I think it’s her room) walls! He he, I guess I got a consolation prize, a very special one. :D

Well, I guess that’s the ending. Even though it goes bad on the highest point it got a very special ending like a visual novel with a twist! But the real ending is yet to be revealed. I want to know who’ll gonna win the contest. It’ll be announced on the next few weeks. I wish Yuirei
and the others who joined the contest good luck
!

I learned a very important lesson again. I’ll follow the rules next time in every contest.

“Never break the rules or the rules will break you.”

Oh before I sign out, here’s the next illustration I’m going to submit next on my gallery. It’s Miyu-chan. Here’s the preview. :D

Hope you like it! That’s it for now. Bye!

*THROWS HIS JACKET!*
